Lake Powell Boat Trip

March 20, 2009
Oh, yeah, this is the life...  On Friday March 20th my parents took the day off and rented a boat so we could all spend the day on Lake Powell.  I'd been out on the lake before, but only in a large tour boat.  It was fun having the smaller boat and being able to explore the tight canyons.  What glorious scenery and the weather was perfect :)  And since it was during the week we only saw a few other boats out there.

Mom and Dad rented the boat at the new Antelope Point Marina and the cost was very reasonable since they were still doing their winter rates.  Then along with their "adopted grandkid" Zywona and Abbey they came over to Wahweap Marina to pick up Kristine and I.  We first went over behind the dam, then up Antelope Canyon.  Then we pulled up on a nice sandy beach on Antelope Island to eat lunch.  Then we went to Labyrinth Canyon and really enjoyed the sights there.  Just that little bit of exploring filled up a day - it would take weeks, if not months or years, to see it all...  Lake Powell has more shoreline than the entire west coast of the United States!

Yep, Crocky got to come, too :)

Next part of trip - Lee's Ferry and Cathedral Wash

Notice the big building up there on the cliff, that's the Visitor Center and looking out those windows is not for the faint of heart
Antelope Canyon (yes, same canyon as this, just it's lowest most section where it enters the lake)

Hold on to your hats, we're jammin now!
Lake Powell is so huge and there are so many canyons that it's easy to get turned around, fortunately they make good maps and have buoys that name the major canyons.   So here's the entrance to Labyrinth Canyon

I think they found the perfect spot, it looks like the sandstone was carved that way just for that boat!
