Cathedral Wash & Lee's Ferry

March 21, 2009
On Saturday Kristine, Zywona, and I went down to the Marble Canyon/Lee's Ferry area.   We stopped by the Navajo Bridge Interpretive Center where Zy had a great time reading all the children's books.  But she did not enjoy holding Kristine's hand while we were walking across the bridge!  Nor mine as we hiked down Cathedral Wash.  She was very independent and insisted on scrambling on all sorts of rocks.  So I resigned to just following her very closely and spotting her.  She's a very brave 4-year-old!

On the road to Lee's Ferry there are some humongous balanced rocks that were fun to explore.  Then we toured the historic buildings at Lee's Ferry and walked the River Trail to see the remains of several steam boats.  For a long time this was the only place between Needles, CA and Moab, UT that you could safely cross the Colorado River!

The two Navajo Bridges, the one on the right was the original, the one on the left was built later and it is wider to accomodate large vehicles.
Looks like fun :) (gotta love my camera's 18x zoom!)
See the boats?
Zy is having a blast :)  These two photos were taken by Kristine
When we got to this pour-off we decided to turn around, no need to take a 4-year old, even a brave one, any further
Other hikers negotiate the ledges around the pour-off
If you continue downstream you will eventually reach the river
We named this formation the French Fries
It looks like a big monster is about to devour my car!  lol
Nah, it's just this humongous balanced rock!
Another big one
Lee's Fort
Old Boiler
This is where most boats launch for the trip down the Grand Canyon
