This weekend Todd and I joined our friend Bob (aka 4wheelbob) in the White Mountains.  Bob is attempting White Mountain Peak again this week and we spent two days doing some warm up hikes and acclimating to the high elevation.  We stayed Friday and Saturday nights at Grandview Campground and on Saturday we hiked the Discovery Trail in the Schulmann Grove and on Sunday Bob did part of the Bristlecone Cabin Trail while I did its entire 3-mile length.  It was a beautiful weekend up there with hardly anyone else out and about.  Lately the southern Sierra Nevada mountains have been cloaked in smoke due to the huge 200,000+ acre Zaca Fire on the Los Padres National Forest.  But we were above most of the smoke for the weekend.
Almost to the summit of the Discovery Trail

The lady at the Visitor Center said this trail was "mostly flat."  Yeah right!
Negotiating some steep rocky steps
It's all worth it to see beautiful old trees like this one!
Indian Paintbrush
Phlox
Not sure what this flower is but it reminds me of Mountain Misery, only it's in a taller bushier form
Ancient Bristlecone Wood
It's all downhill from here!
