Our Route 66 Honeymoon

May 14-19, 2007
Todd and I took a roadtrip honeymoon along Route 66 to Northern Arizona. On the first day we drove to Williams, AZ, driving on a few stretches of Historic Route 66. We stayed two nights at Legacies Bed & Breakfast which turned out to be a very nice place to stay. On Tuesday we visited the Grand Canyon. We just did the tourist thing, going to the visitor center and then taking the shuttle bus out to Hermit's Rest where we had a picnic lunch. We took the shuttle bus back and had dinner that evening on the rim of the canyon at the historic El Tovar Restaurant. Our dinner was wonderful, I had the best steak I'd ever had! After dinner we watched the sun set then drove back to Williams.

On Thursday we went to Walnut Canyon National Monument then made our way down to Sedona. In Sedona we had a tandem massage for two at Sedona's New Day Spa which was heavenly. It was my first massage and probably won't be my last! We toured the shops in downtown Sedona which is very quaint and then explored the Sedona area until sundown. I've always heard that Sedona is one of the most beautiful places in the west and I agree wholeheartedly!
On Friday we headed back west. At Seligman we got on Route 66 and stayed on it until we got into Laughlin, NV. I greatly enjoyed this highway, it's much more interesting than just staying on I-40. We especially liked Oatman, Arizona, and had a great time with the wild burros that roam the town.
Friday night we stayed at the Colorado Belle Hotel in Laughlin. It's the famous motel shaped like a riverboat and, yes, it's right alongside the Colorado River. We gambled a little, ate dinner, went swimming, and had a nice evening.

On Saturday we ate breakfast at a funny little diner then drove the rest of the way home. It wasn't too long of a honeymoon but it was a lot of fun :)
On Wednesday we drove to Sunset Crater and Wupatki National Monuments. We hiked a few of the trails here then made our way back towards Flagstaff. We stayed at a Bed & Breakfast here, too, for two nights. It was the Inn at 410 and this place was beautiful! We stayed in the Monet's Garden Suite which was in a separate cottage off of the garden. :)
