...only once a year, it seems!
Saturday April 21st was the 46th annual Jackass Mail Run. The mail is brought up to Springville from Porterville the way it used to be brought up, by covered wagon pulled by two mules. It takes them the better part of one day to get up here and just when they think the coast is clear there is trouble waiting in Springville... But the cavalry was in formation to lead them through this rough and rowdy town.
This was the first year we'd actually seen the battle rage in what is normally a very quiet and quaint downtown area. We watched it all from the edge of town where the battle begins and photographed it all the way down to the PO and back. Shots rang out and soldiers were killed left and right. But the horsemen and wagon, thankfully, made it through to the PO. Once it was safe I went in to check our mail... Unfortunately all they delivered to us were some bills... Seems hardly worth all the trouble :p
