We went on a road trip to the Mendocino National Forest, the last of the 19 national forests in California that I had yet to visit, and then on to the Mendocino coast, over our Christmas break. Along the way we hiked through the redwoods at Hendy Woods State Park, went on a ranger-guided first day hike at Van Damme State Park, visited the stunted pygmy forest also at Van Damme, saw the sunrise at Russian Gulch State Park, played on the beach at MacKerricher State Park, drove through the famous Chandelier Drive-Thru redwood, and visited the Gravity House at Confusion Hill. The weather was perfect for winter exploration of these amazing areas! |
