Mugu Peak and beyond...
After meeting up with Todd again we drove around the north end of the park and went to the store for some ice and ice cream :)  Then we made our way back to the campground where we lounged, played Phase 10, made dinner, and had a relaxing evening.

You can't see it in this photo, but amongst all that green grass are thousands of shooting star flowers!
The very steep Mugu Peak Direct "Trail"
Now that's more like it...  it levels off, but not long after you're on the Chumash Trail which plunges off the horizon there down down down to the ocean

Surfers
We liked this camper
On Monday morning we packed up camp and headed over to the beach.  We spent an hour or two there with our toes in the sand and spray and watching the surfers.  Then we headed south to Hwy 23 and took this road north to Thousand Oaks.  There is some spectacular scenery up there!  I especially enjoyed the views of the Sandstone Peak area and I vowed to return to hike there someday.  In Thousand Oaks we went to the Santa Monica Mountains NRA visitor center and met a nice volunteer there who organizes hikes along the Backbone Trail.  This trail traverses the entire length of the Santa Monica Mountains and he told me a lot about it.  So it is now another one on my list.
