A trip to Ojai, CA
July 31-August 1, 2005
Me with my mom and dad

My sister and brother-in-law flew out to California for a friend's wedding in Ojai, CA, a beautiful little town near the coast, so my parents deciced to drive up from San Diego and Todd and I drove over from Bakersfield so we could all spend the weekend together :)

Dad and Joe eatin lunch

Mom was laughing so hard at something Joe was saying that she started to cry, lol!

We went into this neat store in downtown Ojai that had a little bit of everything - clothes and shoes and knickknacks and kitchen supplies and hardware.  Basically, anything and everything you could ever want!  We had a lot of fun in there!  Here's mom demonstrating the use of the huge peppermill we saw, lol

We went swimming that afternoon at the hotel pool

The mountains north of Ojai are rugged and beautiful and the views stretched forever.  We took Highway 33 north and then east on the Lockwood Valley Road to Frazier Park.  The scenery was great and there was hardly anyone else out there!

These trees are Big Cone Douglas Fir, Pseudotsuga macrocarpa, which are endemic to southern California.  They look totally out of place with the surrounding chaparral and oak woodland!

Looking north to Cuyama
Prickly Poppies are in the foreground
I will definitely be back to explore more of this area, there are lots of camping and hiking opportunities :)
