Devil's Punchbowl

January 2, 2010
My Dad, Abbey, and I went on a short hike at the Devil's Punchbowl last Saturday.  This
is a beautiful spot not that far from home that I've been meaning to check out.  I mean
who wouldn't look at a map and see the words Devil's Punchbowl and be curious as to
what it is?  Well, it's a Los Angeles County Park surrounded by the Angeles National
Forest on the north side of the San Gabriel Mountains.  The rocks here are comprised
of sandstone that was thrust up due to the San Andreas Fault - similar to Mormon
Rocks further to the southeast.  There are a few trails including the one mile loop that
we did that was short but not exactly easy because it goes down into the middle of the
punchbowl and then comes straight back out again.  At the bottom the creek has carved
its way through the sandstone cliffs and it is very pretty.  I vowed to return and so
tomorrow I am going back with some friends to explore the longer trail out to the
Devil's Chair :)  So stay tuned for Devil's Punchbowl Part 2!
Yuck, doggy kisses :p
