A weekend in San Diego

November 10-11, 2012
Last weekend Todd, the baby, and I went down to San Diego. On Saturday we visited my Great Aunt Joan (the last of her generation on my side of the family) and then went to Torrey Pines State Reserve and Beach. This is a beautiful unspoiled spot on the coastline and there are a lot of hiking trails amongst these very rare trees - they are the rarest conifer in North America. Torrey Pines only grow here and on Santa Rosa Island, one of the Channel Islands. I love their wispy branches and sturdy trunks as they cling to the seaside bluffs and lean away from the wind. This was also the baby's first trip to the beach and he loved crawling around on the sand :) We stayed until the sunset and then headed to the hotel.
First time in a hotel and playing with the "toys"

On Sunday we went to the zoo!
Getting his caricature drawn - he was being a total ham!  lol
