Skyline Drive & Champion
Lodgepole Pine Trail

July 10, 2011
Todd and I took the Jeep out yesterday along Skyline Drive (Forest Road 2n10) in
the San Bernardino National Forest - I think I've found my new favorite forest
road :)  It's beautiful, especially this time of year when the flowers are blooming!
This road follows the ridgeline between Big Bear Lake and the Santa Ana River with
tremendous views of the San Gorgonio Wilderness.  We also took a short hike to
see a redwood-sized Lodgepole Pine tree.  Definitely the largest lodgepole I've
ever seen, this champion is 20 feet in circumeference and an estimated 450 years
old.  Then we eventually made it to my parents' place, and had some of Mom's
famous tacos.  All in all it was a lovely day to be in the mountains.
