I got to take part in this on Tuesday and it was awesome... It was fun to be out on the field of a major league stadium, but the best part is the Padres beat the Dodgers!
"Forest Service firefighters and personnel will be featured as part of the 9/11 Heroes Night at Dodger Stadium which invites all Public Safety Members (firefighters, police, and sheriff personnel) to wear their uniforms to participate in a pre-game, on-field salute to the courage of those that lost their lives on 9/11, the Esperanza Fire, and to those in the Public Safety Service.
Personnel in uniform will be allowed onto the field before 6 pm for the opening ceremony (National Anthem and first-pitch). Children related to the men of Engine 57, who lost their lives in the Esperanza Fire, will throw out the first pitch and a portion of all ticket sales will be donated to their families. Smokey Bear will also be on the field and an FS engine will be on display near the main gate.
The Dodgers will be playing the San Diego Padres and the game will be televised on some cable networks. If on your local cable station, tune in at 7 pm PST, on Tuesday, September 11, to see the pre-game field salute and keep an eye out for the FS uniform and Smokey Bear."
