Valley of Fire State Park

March 26-27, 2009
I stayed at at the Arch Rock Campground in Valley of Fire State Park Thursday night.  I arrived right around sunset and I was very impressed by the scenery.  The rocks are such a brilliant shade of red and have eroded into so many interesting shapes.  I had a chance to go here back on my Jan Term Trip in 1999 but got out-voted - everyone else wanted to go stay in a crappy hotel in Vegas :p  Well, let me tell you, they missed out!  This is an awesome park.  In the morning I saw Atlatl Rock and hiked the short Balanced Rock and Mouse's Tank Trails.  At Mouse's Tank I scrambled off trail a bit to see some petroglyphs that I spotted way up high on the cliffs.  All the petroglyphs I saw in the park were incredible!  At around noontime I decided to hit the road for home, but this is a very cool area to explore, I will take Todd back here someday to see more of the park :)
